Step 1 ยท Eligibility
What is your nationality?
EU/EEA citizens already have the right to work in Germany and do not need the Chancenkarte.
โ Chancenkarte Not Required
As an EU / EEA citizen or Swiss national, you already have the freedom of movement and the right to work in Germany. You do not need the Chancenkarte. You can move to Germany, register your residence, and start working immediately without any visa or permit.
Step 2 ยท Qualification
What is your highest qualification?
This is the most important question. You must have at least one of these to be eligible โ but having your qualification fully recognised in Germany means you qualify automatically without needing 6 points.
๐
Great news! If your qualification is fully recognised in Germany, you qualify for the Chancenkarte directly via the Skilled Worker route โ no points needed! Continue to check remaining requirements.
โ Not Eligible via Points System
The Chancenkarte requires at minimum a university degree or at least 2 years of vocational/professional training that is state-recognised in your home country. Without this, you are unfortunately not eligible for the Chancenkarte. We recommend speaking with our consultants to explore other visa options that may be available to you.
Step 3 ยท Language Skills
What are your language skills?
โ ๏ธ Important: You must have at least German A1 or English B2 to be eligible at all. Additional language skills earn bonus points.
โ Language Requirement Not Met
The Chancenkarte has a mandatory language requirement: you must have either German skills at level A1 (basic) or English at level B2 (upper-intermediate). Without one of these, you cannot apply for the Chancenkarte regardless of your points. We recommend starting a German language course โ even A1 is enough to meet this requirement. Contact us for guidance.
Step 4 ยท Work Experience
How much relevant work experience do you have?
Only experience in the field your qualification is in counts. E.g., if you studied engineering, only engineering experience counts โ not unrelated jobs.
Step 5 ยท Field of Study
Is your profession in one of Germany's shortage occupations?
Germany awards an extra point if your qualification is in a field that Germany urgently needs skilled workers in.
Step 6 ยท Age
How old are you?
Germany's Chancenkarte favours younger applicants, as they are more likely to contribute to the workforce over a longer period.
Step 7 ยท Connection to Germany
Have you previously lived in Germany legally for 6+ months?
This must be a continuous, lawful stay (on a valid visa or residence permit) within the last 5 years. Tourist visits and short Schengen stays do not count.
Step 8 ยท Partner / Spouse
Is your spouse or registered partner also applying for the Chancenkarte?
Both of you receive +1 point each if you apply together at the same authority, travel to Germany together, and each reference the other's application.
